Watch and follow the YouTube video, the lesson contains three parts:

  1. Key Information and content - all you need to do here is watch and listen

  2. Learning activity - there are two activities, the first is a binary addition quiz, you may want to do your working on paper. The second is an activity about the impact of overflow errors.

  3. Consolidation - these are past exam questions and are for deliberate practice to check your understanding.

Question 1

  • Answer: 1 1 1 0 1 1 1 1

  • One mark per nibble

Question 2

  • Answer: 0 1 1 0 1 1 1 1

Mark points for:

  • First nibble correct with carries shown

  • Second nibble correct

  • There is an overflow....

  • ....because the result is greater than 255 / cannot be represented in 8 bits

NOTE: Accept 9 bit answers

Question 3

1 mark for each:

  • a : 1100001

  • e: 1100101
