Question 1 (a)

  • 00110010

Question 1 (b)

1 mark per bullet to a maximum of 2.

  • The number is divided by 4

  • Loss of accuracy...

  • ...the bits on the right are removed

Question 2 (a)

1 mark for each correct answer:

  • Denary equivalent: 173 (top row)

  • Binary number after 2 place left shift: 10110100

  • Denary equivalent for number after shift: 180

Question 2 (b)

1 mark for each point:

  • The number should multiply by 4...

  • ...but it gives the wrong answer, because the value is more than 255, the maximum number represented by 8 bits
